Ray’s campaign is built on common-sense priorities that matter most to Aurora’s families and neighborhoods.
🏛️SENSIBLE DEVELOPMENT
Sensible Development that protects Aurora’s treasured open spaces and small-town character by directing appropriate growth toward areas with existing roads, utilities, and services; strengthening zoning and design standards so new projects fit the scale and appearance of surrounding neighborhoods; and prioritizing the conservation of farms, woodlands, wetlands, scenic views, and stream corridors. Development decisions should be transparent, guided by the Comprehensive Plan and Open Space Plan, and evaluated for their long-term effects on traffic, infrastructure, public services, and quality of life.
🚒 SENIOR AND WORKFORCE HOUSING
Encourage Senior and Workforce housing near walkable, bike-able centers so older residents can remain in the community they know and working families, young adults, and essential employees can afford to live near their jobs. Encourage a range of housing choices—including smaller homes, apartments, townhomes, accessory dwelling units, and age-friendly options, while ensuring that new housing is well designed and located close to shops, services, parks, and transit connections. Thoughtful siting can expand opportunity without promoting scattered development or sacrificing neighborhood character.
🏡 BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY
Prioritize building a sustainable community for people and planet by making practical investments that lower costs, conserve resources, and improve everyday life. Priorities should include energy-efficient municipal facilities, responsible land and water management, expanded walking and bicycling connections, support for local farms and businesses, waste reduction, and protection of natural habitats. Sustainability should also mean creating a healthy, inclusive, and economically resilient community where residents of all ages can safely access recreation, services, and civic life.
🌿 DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Ensure that Disaster Preparedness incorporates the effects of climate change, including heavier rainfall, flooding, severe storms, extreme temperatures, and prolonged power outages. Update emergency plans using current hazard information; improve drainage and other vulnerable infrastructure; protect floodplains, wetlands, and stream buffers that naturally reduce risk; and strengthen coordination among emergency services, municipal departments, utilities, community organizations, and residents. Clear communication, accessible response plans, backup systems, and targeted assistance for vulnerable residents will help Aurora prepare, respond, and recover more effectively.
📋 CREATE A LONG-RANGE PLAN
Create an LRP ( Long-Range financial Plan) to manage costs, revenues, and the tax cap with a multi-year view of operating expenses, staffing, infrastructure, equipment, reserves, debt, and anticipated revenue. Use realistic forecasts to identify fiscal pressures early, prioritize essential services and capital projects, and schedule major investments before they become emergencies. The plan should establish measurable goals, show the financial effect of policy choices, evaluate grants and shared-service opportunities, and be updated annually so residents can clearly understand the Town of Aurora’s priorities, tradeoffs, and progress.
